Is my license suspended in just Virginia?
I live in Washington D.C. but still have a Connecticut drivers license. Back in 2003 I got a speeding ticket (my first) for driving 80 on the Dulles Toll Road. I didn't really read the entire ticket and ended up missing my court date and my license was suspeded. Soon after, I went to the Fairfax County court house and paid the ticket to get my license reinstated. However, I was told that I actually had to go to the DMV to get the license reinstated after paying the ticket. At the time, I had taken time off work and needed to be back in time for a meeting, so I never had the chance to go to the DMV. So technically my license is still suspended in VA even though I paid the ticket. Shortly after I sold my car so now i don't drive. I'm moving to New York at the end of the month and I have two questions 1) Is my drivers license suspended in all states or just in Virginia? 2) if it's only suspended in Virginia am I going to have a hard time renting a moving truck to drive my stuff to NYC
License suspension and revocation information is shared with all 50 states. If your suspension or revocation originated in another state, you must follow that state's reinstatement procedures.
Reinstatement of your driving privileges is not automatic. You must follow DMV reinstatement procedures and physically receive a license to regain your driving privileges, even if your criminal charges were dismissed or reduced.
And, to answer your question, you cannot drive anywhere until your problem is solved with the DMV.
